“If your country was about to fall, would you choose peace… or would you choose courage?”
Good morning, everyone! I’m Noah.
Before I start, I would like to ask you a question.
Please imagine this:
You are the leader of a country. Your nation is in great danger. Your soldiers are trapped far away.
Your people are frightened. Your enemies are becoming stronger and stronger.
Almost everyone around you says, “Give up. Make peace. It is the only way to survive.”
So, if you were in that position, what would you choose?
Today, I would like to recommend Darkest Hour, a British war film directed by Joe Wright.
It was released in 2017 and is based on real events during World War Two.
This movie takes us back to one of the most dangerous moments in British history, when the future of the whole country seemed uncertain.
The story follows Winston Churchill, who struggles with huge pressure, political opposition, and the threat of Nazi Germany.
At that time, Britain was facing one of its most dangerous moments.
More than 300,000 British and allied soldiers were trapped on the beaches of Dunkirk, waiting for rescue.
They were stuck between the ocean and the enemy. If they couldn’t get home, the war would be lost.
Churchill had just become Prime Minister, but many people did not trust him. Some wanted to give up and make peace with the enemy.
Even his own friends in the government told him to surrender. They thought he was a “madman” for wanting to fight.
But Churchill did something amazing.
He went to the common people of London. He rode the subway and talked to regular citizens.
He realized that the people were not afraid. They were ready to fight for their homes.
Through difficult choices and strong faith, he learns to trust the people and stand firm for freedom.
He believes that even in the darkest times, courage and unity can still create miracles.
Under his leadership, Britain successfully completed the Dunkirk evacuation. A mission that seemed almost impossible.
He asked regular people with small fishing boats to sail across the dangerous sea to save the soldiers. And they did it.
What touches me most is Churchill’s spirit of “never surrender”.
He is not shown as a perfect hero. He gets angry. He feels tired. He feels lonely.
Sometimes, he is even not sure whether he is making the right choice.
But this is exactly why I find him real and inspiring.
A true leader is not someone who never feels afraid.
A true leader is someone who still moves forward when fear is standing right in front of him.
When facing fear, loneliness, and great pressure, he chose to stand and fight instead of giving up.
His words gave hope not only to the army, but also to the whole nation.
It makes me think about how I face difficulties in my own life.
Sometimes, when I have too much homework, I feel tired.
Sometimes, before an important exam, I feel nervous.
Sometimes, when I fail, I begin to doubt myself and think, “Maybe I cannot do it.”
We all have moments where we feel like we are trapped on a beach with no way out.
But this movie teaches me an important lesson: courage does not mean we are never afraid.
Courage means we keep going even when we are afraid.
Winston Churchill once said, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts.”
This sentence perfectly shows his belief during Britain’s darkest times.
I highly recommend this movie because it is inspiring, educational, and full of emotion.
It helps us understand history and shows us what true leadership means.
It’s not just a movie, but a lesson about bravery, responsibility, and hope in the darkest times.
Even when the world looks dark, remember: you have the power to turn on the light.
Thank you.
